Why "processed in your browser" is the difference that matters
When a PDF tool uploads your document, a copy of it exists on hardware you do not control, for a retention period you cannot verify, alongside your IP address and the file name. For a printable coupon that is irrelevant. For a signed contract, a payslip, a passport scan, a tenancy agreement or a medical letter, it is a meaningful disclosure — and those are exactly the documents people most often need to edit, sign or shrink.
Trump PDF was built the other way around. The entire application is delivered to your browser and every operation runs there: text editing, compression, merging, splitting, OCR and export. You can verify it in about fifteen seconds — open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and use the tool. You will see the application download, and no request carrying your document anywhere.
Where Smallpdf is still the better choice
Honesty helps you decide faster than marketing does. Server-side tools have real advantages: they do heavy conversions on powerful hardware rather than your laptop, they handle enormous files without touching your device memory, they offer format conversions we do not, and they keep your work synced across devices. If you need certified redaction, complex form workflows, prepress output or conversion into Office formats, use a full product built for that.
If what you need is to fix a sentence, shrink a file to fit an upload limit, combine a bundle, sign a form or read text out of a scan — without an account, without a queue, and without your document leaving your machine — that is exactly what this is for.
